This was the tree that I initially didn’t think would go very far, the tree of my Pa, Lyle James Booth. But a lazy, unfocussed googling of Booths of Barraba (NSW) hit upon a blog of one of my Mum’s distant cousins, whom Mum had actually spoken to once upon a time. The claims on this blog were frankly coo coo bananas. She thought there was Jewish in our fam (hint, there is, but not on this side from what I have seen so far) and she thought that one of our grandies was a game keeper at a fancy house in the UK for an aristocratic family and that was exciting enough for them to start looking. Well, she and her husband did some research – way before now when that stuff was HARD and not as internetty, and they discovered British aristocrazy out the wazoo, Knights, Ladies, Archbishops, and an extremely thorough job of generations upon generations marrying strategically for power, particularly marriages of averagely connected aristocratic and noble blokes to women that were pretty much the bosses of everything and related to everyone. There is a claim that I am directly descended from William the Conqueror, THAT guy that came across from Normandy, France to take over the UK in 1066, and also Rollo Ragnvaldsson – who was a Danish / Norwegian (give me a few years to confirm) VIKING that invaded France and indeed became the duke? king? emporer? of Normandy a few hundred years before Will. This will literally take me the rest of my life to prove or disprove SO GOOGLE PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS AS A FACT, or even a factoid. I am putting this into the camp of salacious rumour and if anyone else watched the excellent but disgusting tv show Vikings, Rollo was played by Clive Standen and we say : HELLO DADDY.
